Applying to be registered with Ofsted

1 min read

  1. Check if you need to register: Not all types of childcare services require Ofsted registration, so the first step is to check whether your service falls under the criteria for registration. The Ofsted website provides information about the types of services that require registration and the criteria for each.
  2. Complete the application form (EY2): If you determine that your service requires Ofsted registration, you will need to complete an application form. You can download the form from the Ofsted website or request a paper copy by contacting Ofsted.
  3. Provide supporting documents: Along with the application form, you will need to provide certain supporting documents, such as proof of identity, proof of address, and disclosure and barring service (DBS) checks for yourself and any other adults who will be working with children.
  4. Pay the registration fee: There is a fee for Ofsted registration, which varies depending on the type and size of your service. The fee can be paid online or by cheque.
  5. Wait for the inspection: Once your application and supporting documents have been submitted, Ofsted will carry out an inspection of your service to ensure that it meets the regulatory standards for safety, welfare, and quality of care. The inspection may include a site visit, interviews with staff and parents, and review of documentation.
  6. Receive the registration certificate: If your service is found to meet the regulatory standards, you will receive a registration certificate from Ofsted, which will allow you to legally operate your service.

Overall, the process of applying for Ofsted registration can take several weeks or months, so it is important to plan ahead and ensure that you have all the necessary documentation and information and do not resign any current settings from the core account until you have made progress within your new application.
