What is the HAF programme and what are the requirements

2 min read

The Holiday Activity Fund (HAF) is a program launched by the UK government to provide funding to support holiday activities for children from disadvantaged backgrounds. The program aims to provide children with the opportunity to engage in fun and educational activities during the school holidays, and to ensure that they have access to healthy meals and snacks.

To run a HAF camp, you will need to meet certain criteria and comply with the program requirements. Here are some of the key things you will need to do:

  1. Eligibility: To be eligible to receive HAF funding, your camp must be located in an area of high deprivation and serve children who are eligible for free school meals. You will need to demonstrate that you can provide safe and high-quality activities for children, including healthy meals and snacks.
  2. Application process: You will need to apply for HAF funding through your local authority or participating charity. The application process may involve submitting a proposal outlining your camp activities, staffing arrangements, and budget, as well as providing evidence of your compliance with health and safety requirements.
  3. Program requirements: To receive HAF funding, you will need to comply with certain program requirements, such as providing healthy meals and snacks, ensuring adequate staffing ratios, and providing appropriate activities and resources for children of different ages and abilities.
  4. Staffing: You will need to ensure that you have sufficient staffing to meet the needs of the children in your care, and that all staff members have appropriate qualifications and training. You will also need to carry out background checks for staff members.
  5. Activities and resources: You will need to plan and provide a range of activities that are engaging, fun, and educational for children, such as sports, arts and crafts, and educational workshops. You will also need to ensure that you have appropriate resources and equipment to support these activities.
  6. Evaluation and reporting: You will be required to report on the success of your HAF camp, including feedback from children and parents, and evidence of any outcomes achieved. You may also be required to provide data on attendance, activities, and meal provision.

By meeting these requirements and providing a safe and engaging holiday camp for disadvantaged children, you can help to support their well-being and educational attainment through the HAF program.
